POLICE and military troops on Monday morning raided the hideout of a wanted suspect in the infamous Maguindanao massacre triggering a firefight that left the fugitive dead and at least five policemen and a soldier wounded.

A report to Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan LM Purisima said Datu Daingan Ampatuan shot it out with the security forces who were inching their way into his hiding place in Bgy. Kuloy, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao. A sniper shot him dead.

However, Ampatuan’s armed cohorts managed to shoot some of the troopers before escaping shortly after the 10 a.m. Monday gunbattle.
