A man and his wife were killed while a multicab driver was seriously wounded in a gun attack at the intersection of Buenavista and Mayor Jaldon Steets yesterday morning.
The fatalities were identified as Ibrahim Baudin, 37, of Recodo, this city and Narcisa Salimbulong, 32, of Maluso, Basilan. Wounded was Julkanain Asanji, 54, of San Jose Gusu.
Baudin and Salimbulong sustained bullet wounds in their body and were taken to the Zamboanga City Medical Center where they were declared dead on arrival.
Asanji was in critical condition with a bullet wound in the back of the body.
A police report disclosed that Baudin and Salibulong had just arrived from Jolo, Sulu at past 5 a.m. They hired a flatbed multicab driven by Asanji to take them to Talon-Talon.
Baudin sat beside the driver while Salimbulong boarded at the flatbed of the vehicle where their things were placed.
The vehicle passed Buenavista Street with the intention of going straight to Tetuan, then all the way to Talon-Talon. At the Buenavista and Jaldon intersection, the multicab stopped on red light. A motorcycle with two men aboard sidled up the right side of the vehicle and the backrider shot Baudin at close range hitting him in the head.
After shooting Baudin, the gunman alighted from the motorcycle and went to the flatbed of the multicab and shot Salimbulong in the body.
One of the bullets also hit Asanji who was at the driver’s seat.
The gunman boarded back the motorcycle that sped away towards east direction, according to witnesses.
Recovered at the crime scene were six spent shells of .45 caliber pistol.
City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed that he and his men were still working on the case, hoping to arrest the perpetrators.
