In Makati City, a tricycle driver who is believed to be a police informer was shot dead in front of a church on Maya Street in Barangay Rizal at around 1 a.m. Thursday.

The victim was identified as Rodolfo Benitez Jr., also known as “Alyas Mata.”

Six bullet slugs were found at the crime scene, with a van parked nearby also hit with a few stray bullets.

The victim’s father said that his son, who was close with some policemen, may have been suspected to be a police asset.

Police said that those behind the killing may be connected with the illegal drug trade.

The victim’s tricycle was nowhere to be found.
