Man kills brother over water (The Freeman) Updated June 03, 2010 12:00 AM |
CEBU, Philippines – An argument that stemmed from the dwindling water supply from their well led to the death of a traffic enforcer in Barangay Pandan, Naga yesterday morning.
Vicente Bacaro, 48, died from the two gunshot wounds in his head, one in his stomach and another in his hand. He was shot by his younger brother, Leonides Bacaro, 34.
Leonides was also taken to the South General Hospital because of a wound on his head. Vicen-te had reportedly hit him with a handgun.
Vicente, according to the police, is a job order employee of the City Government assigned to man the traffic at the market.
Narrating the incident based from their blotter, PO2 Kent Cabrera, desk officer of the Naga Police Station, disclosed that it was Vicente’s wife Francisca, 39, who had a heated argument with Leonides due to the source of their water.
Leonides reportedly cursed (gibalikas) Francisca, who then went home carrying one gallon of water. Vicente asked his wife what the problem was.
Francisca probably told his husband about the argument she had with her brother-in-law, PO2 Cabrera.
Francisca was not aware that her husband went to the well, where he caught up with his brother.
Cabrera said that based on the report, Vicente and Leonides then fought with each other. Vicente hit the suspect in the head using the handgun he was carrying. A fistfight occurred, afterwhich Leonides shot his brother.
Vicente’s body was covered with blood when SPO1 Randolf Rivera, PO3 Leonilo Banguardia, and PO1 Antonio Icalina, the responding police officers, arrived at the crime scene.
They recovered the .45 caliber firearm with its magazine and live bullets. Rebecca, Leonides’ wife, also surrendered a .38-revolver with five ammunitions to the police.
It was Aurillio Alinsonorin, the barangay captain of Pandan, who reported the incident to the police.— Mellanie Joy C. Rosales, Correspondent with Brenda D. Batuto of Banat News/JPM (THE FREEMAN)
