MANILA – A Chinese national with his own armory was arrested after attempting to stab a man inside Resorts World Manila in Pasay City early Thursday.

Suspect Jerry Sy was arrested after attempting to stab a Chinese casino agent at the parking lot of the casino at around 5 a.m.

Senior Superintendent Florencio Ortilla, Pasay City Police chief, said casino personnel reported the incident, resulting in the arrest of the 46-year-old suspect.

When Sy’s Honda Accord (conduction sticker no. DL 5101) was inspected, police discovered a number of high-powered firearms with silencers, smoke grenades, live hand grenades, various ammunition, axe, hammer, spikes, knives, stun gun, and gloves.

Several sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) were seized from the suspect.

Ortilla said the suspect, whose ID indicates that he is a resident of Fugoso Street in Tondo, Manila, was a Platinum card holder of the casino.

“Ang biktima ay agent ng casino, financier, involved siya sa utang siguro. VIP ang nahuli. High-roller ito,” Ortilla told ANC.

Chief Inspector Jose Erwin Villacorte, Southern Police District (SPD) director, said investigators are now checking whether the firearms seized from Sy were licensed, and whether he is staying in the country legally.

As of posting, the victim was also being interrogated by investigators to shed light on the attempted killing, according to Villacorte.

Investigators will also determine whether the suspect has cohorts.

Resorts World Manila has yet to issue a statement on the incident. – report from Johnson Manabat, dzMM.
