Man mistaken to be a police asset, shot dead

CEBU, Philippines – A man mistaken to be a police asset was shot dead in Barangay Kamagayan by still unidentified assailant yesterday morning.

The victim, Joel Calo Antig, 35, single and resident of Sitio San Isidro, Mabolo, was sleeping on a wooden bench at the basketball court when the unidentified gunman shot him on the face at close range. The bullet exited through the back of victim’s head.

A 16-year-old boy who witnessed the incident said that the gunman was wearing a ball cap, black jacket and pants and fled towards D. Jakosalem Street after shooting the victim.

PO3 Leroy Baguio of the Homicide Section said they are still verifying information that the victim is involved in illegal drugs.

Baguio said they also received information that the victim was mistaken to be an asset of the police.

In another shooting incident, Aldrin Atillo, 26, was injured on the chest after he was shot by Jason Alquizar in Sitio Kadasig, Barangay Buhisan last Sunday morning.

The victim with his three friends rested on a bench after attending a disco when they were fired upon by the suspect.

The victim was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center where he is confined.

The police are still looking into the motive behind the incident.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
