AN UNEMPLOYED man was shot and wounded by an unidentified assailant in barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City on Saturday night.

Arnold Fernandez, 30, told police he was resting by the roadside after playing basketball around 11:30 p.m. when a man arrived.

Fernandez said that the man asked him if he knew someone named Arnold. When Fernandez said that he was the one he was looking for, the stranger drew a gun and fired at him several times.

A wounded Fernandez ran away and boarded a trisikad which brought him to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

The gunman fled to an unknown direction.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds in the chest, right forearm and left leg.

Police are looking into personal grudges as possible motive in the shooting.

Homicide investigators said the victim figured in a fistfight with a certain Junjun during a basketball game last week. 

The victim told the police that he and Junjun settled their differences after the fight. /CORRESPONDENT CHRIS A. LIGAN
