A man ended up in jail after he strangled one of two policemen who accosted him at a checkpoint Sunday night in Caloocan City.

Charged with direct assault before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office was Jerome Lara, 22, of Serrano St., Caloocan City.

The case stemmed from the complaint filed by PO2  Ernie Mactal, detailed at the Anti-Carnapping Unit of the Caloocan City police, following an argument on Serrano St. Sunday at 10:45 p.m.

Mactal claimed he and PO2 Joven Pacis were in front of their checkpoint  for Oplan Sita when they saw Lara on a motorcycle (UK-1605) passed by.

Mactal said he signalled Lara to stop for verification of his license and other documents pertaining to the vehicle’s ownership.

However, Lara instead  sped away, prompting Mactal and Pacis to chase and eventually catch him.

The policemen demanded for his driver’s license when a heated argument ensued between them.

At the height of their verbal tussle,  Lara strangled Mactal.

Mactal’s colleagues responded and brought Lara to the police station.
