MANILA, Philippines – A man was found dead in his room in Sta. Mesa, Manila past midnight on Monday.

Eduardo Medrano, 38, was found dead by his relatives inside the room he was renting in a house in Barangay 631.

The man had blood on his shoulders and bruises on his legs.

Police said they found no indications of forced entry and that Medrano’s door was unlocked. They said there may have been a struggle, as Medrano’s things were in disarray.

“May traces ng gulo, magulo ang mga gamit,” said PO3 Rodel Benitez of the Manila Police District’s homicide unit.

Jaime Espantero, the victim’s neighbor, said he was surprised when he was called by Medrano’s relatives over to his room. He thought Medrano was only sleeping.

“Inakala ko, binangungot lang e. Pero nakita ko na marami nang langgam,” he said.

Investigators said they will determine if any of the victim’s possessions are missing, noting Medrano may have been killed by a thief. – From a report by Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
