MANILA, Philippines—A laborer who was in the middle of an argument with his wife died on Christmas Day after his drunken son stabbed him in a fit of rage.
Police identified the victim as Augustos Carlo Magno, 50, a laborer and resident of Sitio (subvillage) Mendez in Baesa, Quezon City.
His attacker, his 28-year-old son King, escaped and was being sought by the police.
Case investigator Police Officer 2 Loreto Tigno of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the stabbing happened inside the victim’s home at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Based on their investigation, Tigno said the victim and his wife, Juanita, were talking about their financial problems and mounting debts when the discussion turned into an argument.
Marital spat
The victim then asked Juanita for a detailed computation of their expenses, which she could not provide, Tigno added.
This made the victim angrier and he raised his voice at his wife, which irked their son who had just come home.
Tigno said that King, who was drunk, tried to intervene and talk some sense into his father but the victim also became angry at him.
Unexpected attack
The two started arguing and King, in a drunken rage, pulled out a knife and stabbed his father, the police official said.
King immediately ran out of their house while his mother shouted for help, attracting the attention of their neighbors who helped rush the victim to Quezon City General Hospital for treatment.
He was, however, declared dead on arrival at 8:58 p.m. by a Doctor De la Cruz, the attending physician.
