COTABATO CITY – A field reporter of the ABS-CBN television station in Central Mindanao was stabbed and wounded after resisting a robbery attempt by two suspects in Cotabato City on Tuesday evening, the police reported.
Senior Supt. Willie Dangane, city police director, said Arshad Ayao, a 22-year-old neophyte reporter, was walking for home on Tuesday night after a day’s work when he was attacked by two holdup men.
“It was not work-related, not in anyway connected to his work as reporter,” Dangane said, adding that Ayao sustained two stab wounded and is now recuperating at a hospital here.
Nevertheless, Dangane condemned the attack and directed his police field officers to identify and arrest the suspects.
Dangane said the suspects attempted to grab Ayao’s high-end mobile phone. When he tried to resist, he was stabbed in the back by one of the attackers.
Even as he was wounded, Ayao chased one of the suspects and managed to recover his mobile phone.
Dangane said Ayao identified one of his attackers and is now the subject of citywide manhunt.
Dangane admitted that crimes against property usually go up during the Christmas holidays. (PNA)
