THE Binan Police Office is looking at “business rivalry” as the possible motive for the ambush-slaying of a city councillor before dusk Monday.
Supt. Joel Pernito, city police chief, said Councilor Rodrigo “Digo” Mimje Casas, 48, died from several gunshot wounds after he and his driver, Luisito Castro Caipan, 45, were attacked by two motorcycle-riding suspects in Jubilation Subd., Barangay Zapote on their way home.
Pernito said the victim died while undergoing emergency treatment at the Perpetual Help Hospital. Caipan was declared out of danger.
The victims had just left the new Biñan City hall in an official vehicle, an Isuzu Crosswind after attending session at the city council when they were ambushed.
“From the looks of it, this was a long-planned assassination carried out probably by hired killers,” Pernito said.
A “tracker team” has been dispatched to hunt the gunmen as they start investigation to unmask the brains of the attack.
“The sketches of the suspect does not match those in our police gallery so it is possible that they came from outside the city and even the province,” he added.
Pernito said they have discounted other possible motives such as politics and are focusing on business rivalry. Casas, a two-term city councilor, was engaged in buy and sell of scrap materials.
