MANILA, Philippines—A Korean tourist was wounded late Sunday night when he was attacked allegedly by a 60-year-old maintenance worker of the hotel where he was staying in Manila.

Andy Kim, 37, temporarily staying at the St. Andrew’s Pension House along San Andres St. in Malate, remains confined at the Ospital ng Maynila (Manila Hospital) and is still undergoing treatment for a stab wound in the neck.

His alleged attacker Rodrigo Montes, a stay-in employee of the pension house, was arrested immediately after the assault.

Senior Police Officer 3 Angelito Guiang, desk officer of the Manila Police District (MPD) Ermita station 5, said that the incident happened at around 9 p.m. at the ground floor of the pension house.

Before the incident, Montes, Barangay (village) 702 Zone 77 executive officer Alberto Perino and several others were engaged in a drinking session at the front desk of the inn when Kim arrived.

Guiang said that Kim and Montes engaged in a heated argument which resulted in the sexagenarian stabbing the Korean tourist in the neck with a knife.

The desk officer added that Montes then tried to flee and hide in the upper floors of the pension house. He was arrested by Perino and two other village watchmen and turned over to the police.

Montes remains detained at the MPD station 5 holding cell pending the filing of a frustrated homicide case against him before the city prosecutor’s office.
