A KOREAN died in an ambush staged by four armed men at dawn yesterday in Pasig City.
Eastern Police District director Chief Supt. Francisco Manalo identified the fatality as Cho Tae Hwan, a member of the Evangelical worship church in Cainta, Rizal and Philippine National Police Values and Spiritual Counsels Association, Inc. Hwan’s companions Kim Young Gun and Kim Htoung Sik were snatched but later released unharmed by the suspects. The other Koreans Kim Jeong Suk, Cho Eun Hye, Han Jin Suk Choi Ho Young, and Kim Da Ean escaped unhurt. Reports said that Hwan and his fellow Koreans were riding a Chevrolet van (XEV-328) when the incident happened at 12:40 a.m. in Ortigas Ext. Barangay Sta Lucia. The victims came from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and were on their way to Cainta when they were blocked by the suspects on board a white van. The gunmen immediately took the money, jewelry and cellphones of the Koreans. They dragged Gun and Sik into their car and shot Hwan fatally. The incident was reported to the police by a representative from the Korean Embassy identified as Jung Soon Chul. |
