A barangay kagawad and a 56-year-old employee were shot dead yesterday in separate incidents amid the strict implementation of the Comelec election gunban.

 

Killed were Bernardo Delos Reyes, married, a kagawad of Barangay Mampang, and Jose Tiapon y Contemplado, 56, separated, of Zamora Drive, Pasonanca.

Delos Reyes sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot.

A police report disclosed that Delos Reyes went to Alvarez Drive past 7 a.m. to follow-up a complaint that was submitted to the barangay office, when a gunman appeared and shot him at close range.

Police suspected the killer took Delos Reyes’ handgun before he left the place.

The Tetuan police conducted a hot pursuit operation, but still has to identify Delos Reyes’ killer.

Investigators were still gathering more information to unmask the gunman.

Tiapon was standing and smoking while on break time at a small booth of the a Coca Cola Bottling Plant when two men on board motorcycle stopped in front and one of them pulled out a caliber .45 cal. pistol and shot Tiapon five times. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds on his head and chest and was rushed to the Western Mindanao Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Operatives of the Tetuan police station recovered five empty shells of .45 cal. pistol at the crime scene.
