AN 18-year-old resident of Sta. Mesa, Manila, was killed on the spot when he questioned the presence of an unidentified man circling their neighborhood at dawn yesterday.

PO3 Jupiter Tajonera of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section identified the victim as Arnold Abella,  of 271 De Dios Extension, Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The suspect, Elpidio Silonga, 20, a stay-in helper at the GSIS Metro Homes Bldg., Unit D-5 Anonas St., Sta. Mesa, Manila, was traced by PO3 Tajonera at the De Ocampo Memorial Medical Center in Nagtahan, also in Sta. Mesa, while seeking treatment for wounds he sustained in the arms and hands as a result of the fisticuffs he had with the slain victim.

Investigation showed that at around 4:30 a.m. yesterday, the victim saw the suspect circling their neighborhood and then stopping in front of a house located at 3238 Pureza St., Sta. Mesa where he started walking to and fro.                         

As his suspicion was drawn, the victim asked the suspect what he was doing in the area. The suspect resented this, triggering a fisticuff between the two. The victim later drew a knife and tried to stab the suspect, who was able to parry the attack and wrest possession of the knife. He then stabbed the victim dead and then fled on foot.

Investigation showed that there were pedicab drivers then present in the area but that none of them lifted a finger to stop the two from fighting or rushing the victim to the nearest hospital.
