MANILA — The owner of a rental house was shot dead by his boarder in Parola Compound in Tondo, Manila Monday night, police said.

The suspect was identified as Henry Hareto. He had been renting the house owned by France Neil Barrientos in Gate 56, Area H for about a year.

The victim’s live-in partner, Thelma Tampus, said the suspect had not been paying rent for the house.

She said every time Barrientos asked the suspect to pay for the rent, Hareto would only challenge Barrientos to a gunfight.

Tampus said Hareto was drunk when he went home last night. Before firing his gun at the victim, the suspect allegedly first cracked a joke that he would kill Barrientos.

PO3 Alonzo Layuga of the Manila Police District (MPD) Homicide Division said the victim sustained gunshot wounds in his arms and side of his torso.

Hareto, meanwhile, was able to escape.
