A holdupper was shot by a policeman assigned at the Eastern Police District (EPD) when he resisted arrest after a holdup incident in Tondo, Manila, the other night.

Romeo Viscayno, 32, of 920 San Antonio St., Tondo, was shot by PO3 Jeffrey Rodriguez Dig at around 11 p.m. along Sta Isabel Street in Recto, Tondo.  Det. Charles John Duran of the Manila Police District (MPD)-Homicide Section said that prior to the incident, Viscayno attempted to hold up Jonas Cay and Aljon Valmonte, both 17.

When the would-be victims told Viscayno that they belonged to the same barangay, the holdup did not push through.

However, when Viscayno came across vendor Argie Floralde, 25, he reportedly blocked the latter’s path and took his cellphone at gunpoint.

When Viscayno left, Floralde began shouting for help. Dig, who was then parking his motorcycle near the area, heard Floralde and responded.

Dig was said to have hollered for Viscayno to stop running while introducing himself as a police officer. Instead of yielding, however, Viscayno was said to have fired at Dig, who was left with no choice but to shoot back, in the process hitting Viscayno in the body and killing him.

Investigation showed that Viscayno was notorious in their area as a dreaded holdupper.
