Hold-up victim shot in the face, cop on-leave shot dead

Unfortunately, yesterday – November 24, 2010, initially thought of as separate incidents, a Western Union branch manager, Magadalena Victoria, was held up and shot while a police man was shot dead in broad daylight, one in San Jose and another in Nuñez Extension respectively.

 

One of the victims, a certain PO1 Douglas Pineda was killed at the Nuñez Extension while running after an alleged hold-uppers riding motorcycle in tandem.

Initial report said that going to San Jose at around 12 noon there was a robbery that took place in the establishment of Western Union, San Jose Branch. The manager of the said money cash transfer was shot and the perpetrators fled towards Nuñez Extension.

The policemen on duty noticed that the motorist did not mind traffic rules which gives them the hint to run after them.

PO1 Douglas Pineda, seeing the commotion did not hesitate to get to the suspects but he was shot several times in the body where he succumbed to death.

On the other hand, the WU branch manager was rushed to ZAEC Medical Center where she is undergoing treatment.

Responding policemen were able to capture Nuri Malimba suspected as the one who shot and killed Pineda using a .45 caliber pistol. The police as of this writing is still looking for the other.

Before the incident happened, it was said that PO1 Douglas Pineda, assigned in traffic division filed his “leave of duty” on that day and surrender his firearm to the City Police Office. The reason for his leave is his wedding preparation which is schedule on December 2010 next month.

Pineda’s remains was brought to La Merced Funeral for proper burial.  

A month ago another pawnshop was also robbed and the authority is still doing a manhunt operation for arrest of the suspects.

Acting Police Director, Police Senior Superintendent Edwin De Ocampo doubled the security, alertness and the number of policemen on duty in the city. According to  the city police chief, the city police office will give award honoring PO1 Douglas Pineda for his heroic act. The entire force of PNP Zamboanga gives sympathy to the relatives of the victim, he said. 

A continuous manhunt operations is being conducted for the capture of the other criminal in order to face charges in court.
