CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — The president of a jeepney drivers’ association was shot dead in San Pablo City Monday evening, police said Tuesday.

Rafael Villapando, whose group plies the San Pablo City–Candelaria, Quezon route, was approached by a lone gunman on foot and shot twice in the neck and head at the jeepney terminal in Barangay (village) Poblacion at around 7:10 p.m., Supt. Leo Luna, San Pablo City police chief, said in a phone interview.

He said disagreements between Villapando’s group and another drivers’ association was the primary angle police were looking into as possible motive for the killing.
