IVE unidentified gunmen seized two persons at a private wharf in a west coast village in Zamboanga City, a top police official said Sunday.
Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo said the incident took place around 12:20 a.m. of Sunday at Taha wharf in the village of Baliwasan.
De Ocampo identified the victim as Nancy Gonato, 38, a marine products trader, and her live-in partner, Ronnie San Dagon, 50.
De Ocampo said the suspects seized the victims while they were asleep in their rented house at Taha wharf and at gunpoint forced them to board on a waiting motorized banca.
The motorized banca sped toward the west, De Ocampo said.
He said the incident is not a case of kidnap-for-ransom.
According to De Ocampo, the suspects seized the victims to force them to settle their accounts as investigation showed that Gonato has standing debts to her suppliers ranging from P20,000 to P200,000.
“If they were seized for ransom, who is going to raise the ransom since both of them were taken?” he said.
Police are still determining the people Gonato are indebted, hoping it would help them identify the suspects, he said.
