MANILA, Philippines – A security guard at the Bureau of Plant Industry in Malate, Manila was arrested after shooting a boy who was only trying to get a “santol” fruit from a tree.

Suspect Adino Adao allegedly shot the victim, a 9-year-old boy, who was climbing a santol tree located outside the bureau’s compound.

Adao was arrested, but the firearm he used in allegedly shooting the minor was not recovered.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police said Adao will be subjected to a paraffin test.

The suspect is facing frustrated murder charges in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.”
