MANILA, Philippines – A Globe Telecom cellsite in Zamboanga del Norte province was bombed Tuesday morning, the telecommunications company said Thursday.
The incident, which occurred at Poblacion, Siocon, left a security guard injured.
The cellsite did not suffer any significant damage from the improvised bomb, Globe Telecom said in a press statement.
“Our guard on duty suffered very minor injuries, and was immediately given treatment at a nearby Siocon medical clinic. Despite the unfortunate incident, our subscribers did not experience any service disruption as all mobile services are up and running in the Zamboanga area,” Globe Corporate Communications head Yoly Crisanto said.
“We are waiting for the results of the official investigation from the Zamboanga police to determine possible motives behind the attack,” she added.
She said Globe is undergoing a US$700-million network modernization program that is 84% completed.
Crisanto said 100% of Globe’s cellsites in Davao, Cebu, CAMANAVA, South Luzon and the Zamboanga Peninsula have been upgraded.
