A FORMER policeman was shot dead in barangay Poblacion, Barili town, southwest Cebu on Monday.
Victor Natad Rio, 52, died of multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Rio was a municipal job order employee at the time of his death.
He was dismissed from the police service in the 1990s for Absence without Official Leave, said Senior Supt. Erson Digal, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).
Police said Rio bought something from a store around 5:30 a.m.
He was about to leave the store on board his motorycle when a man arrived and shot him several times.
The gunman fled on a motorcycle driven by another man.
Senior Insp. Marlon Gumabao, chief of the Barili police, said no one was able to identify the gunman.
The gunman was described as wearing a ball cap.
It was not clear whether Rio’s death was related to his job as a municipal worker or his past work as a policeman.
Felomino Dodong Leyson, information officer of Barili town, said Rio was detailed in the market as part of the inspectorate team.
His job included checking the attendance of other job order workers who worked as market cleaners and garbage collectors.
Leyson said they had not received any complaints about Rio regarding his job at the market./CORRESPONDENTS GABRIEL C. BONJOC AND JHUNNEX NAPALLACAN
