BATANGAS CITY—An unidentified gunman shot dead a retired policeman at P. Torres street, village 6, Lipa City Saturday afternoon, police said Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Alberto Supapo, Batangas police director identified the victim as Edgardo Lupac, 56, and a resident of Lipa.

Investigation showed that at about 4:20 p.m., Lupac had just alighted from a stainless owner-type jeep when he was shot at close range by the gunman.

The killer fled on board a black motorcycle with another rider.

The policeman was dead on the spot after suffering a lone bullet wound at the back of his head.

Recovered from the crime scene was an empty shell for a .45-caliber pistol.
