MANILA – Police on Thursday seized high-powered firearms and explosives from the house of Pulupandan, Negros Occidental Mayor Magdaleno Peña.
The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Special Action Force (SAF) Battalion 6 discovered 44 high-powered firearms inside the mayor’s house.
The firearms include 31 shotguns, seven AK-47 rifles, two M16 rifles, two .45-caliber pistols, and two sniper rifles.
Aside from the firearms, police also found boxes of ammunition and military explosives.
Peña claimed all the firearms are licensed. Police said they will verify the mayor’s claim.
Two policemen, identified as PO2 Pedrito Lupo and PO1 Vicente Castillo, have been placed under investigation in connection with the seized firearms. – report from Yasmin Dormido, DZMM Correspondent
