Filipino-Chinese businessman killed in poll violence

COTABATO CITY, Philippines (Xinhua) – A Filipino-Chinese businessman running for councilor in the upcoming elections was killed today in an poll-related violence in Cotabato City.

Police director Senior Superintendent Willy Dangane said Joseph Kwan Datuwata, a candidate for councilor in Cotabato City, was about to leave his home with his two children when he was attacked by armed men at around 7:00 a.m.

Dangane said Datuwata’s sons were injured in the attack. 

Datuwata, 42, was running under the party of mayoral candidate Bai Zeny Dilangalen, wife of Maguindanao first district Rep. Didagen Dilangalen.
