TRYING to save his son from a bullet from the latter’s half brother, a 58-year-old man was injured the other day in Tondo, Manila.
Celerino Sumaway, of 394 Sta. Teresita St., Tondo, Manila, is now recuperating in a hospital while the suspect, identified as Ruel Cruz, 24, was arrested after angry neighbors ganged up on him.
Investigation by the Manila Police District-Police Station 1 operatives showed the incident took place around 12 noon when the suspect went to see his half brother Daniel Ferrer to collect a debt amounting to P15,000.
Cruz told the police that instead of apologizing for not being able to pay up, Ferrer hurled invectives at him. Angered, he pointed a .22 cal. handgun at Ferrer.
Sumaway, the father of Ferrer, hurled himself in front of Ferrer and was hit in the left shoulder when Cruz fired.
Charges for violation of the gun ban and frustrated murder were filed against the suspect.
