MANILA, Philippines – A father of 3 lost his life after he refused to give his Nokia 3210 cell phone to thieves in San Pablo, Laguna, police said Monday.

Police Superintendent Raul Bargamento, San Pablo police chief, said victim Michael Clarianes, 27, was resting with a friend near Sampalok Lake when three cellphone thieves approached them and declared a holdup.

He said Clarianes was stabbed 13 times after he tried to fight off the thieves. His friend escaped the incident and alerted police.

The three suspects were later arrested but denied the crime.

Clarianes left behind a wife and three children.
