BATANGAS CITY, Philippines—The general manager of a manufacturer-exporter of motor vehicle parts was shot dead in Malvar town Thursday morning, police said.

Chief Inspector Eduard Mallo, Malvar police chief, said 49-year-old Fortunato Ortaleza, GM of Pilipinas Kyohritsu Inc., was driving to work in Lipa City when he was shot by unidentified gunmen in Barangay San Pedro at around 7:45 a.m.

Mallo said the assailants could have followed Ortaleza from his home in Tanauan City and attacked him in Malvar when they saw the chance.

He said the victim was shot several times before his vehicle slammed into a brick wall. Ortaleza died on the spot, he added.
