ATANGAS- A former vice-mayor was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in San Pascual town Wednesday evening, police said.

Senior Superintendent Omega Jireh-Fidel, Batangas Police Provincial Director, identified the victim as Alfredo “Pido” Aldover, a resident of Barangay Poblacion and a security consultant of San Pascual Mayor Antonio Dimayuga.

Police said Aldover had just left a gathering and was about to board his car along a national highway in Barangay Poblacion when an unidentified assailant shot him from behind at around 11:15 p.m.

Aldover was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mario Bejasa General Hospital in Bauan town.

Aldover sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and back.

Aldover served as vice-mayor of San Pascual from 1995 to 1998. He also served as mayor for three months when the former mayor Mario Magsaysay was suspended just before the 1998 local elections.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting and the personalities behind it.
