Ex-rebel-turned-military asset killed by ‘Reds’

CARRANGLAN, Nueva Ecija — A rebel returnee-turned-military agent was gunned down by two suspected New People’s Army rebels while the former was having a drinking spree with a bar girl inside a videoke bar Sunday night.

Police identified the fatality as Orlando Sismundo, 42, separated, of Sitio Sabado Nights, Bgy. Piut, Carranglan town.

Sismundo was alleged to be a rebel returnee and an action agent of the Philippine Army based in Zaragosa town.   

Police said the victim was drinking beer with bar girl Lyca Garcia, 29, and a certain Elegado, of Bgy. Putlan, this town, when the gun attack occurred inside the Julie’s Videoke bar owned by Julie Tambalque, 41, at 8:15 p.m. 

Police said the two unidentified suspects barged in and shouted: “’Wag kayong kikilos, mga NPA ito.” Afterwhich, the duo shot the victim five times, causing his instantaneous death.

After the assault, the suspects, along with a third cohort, who acted as lookout, fled on foot.

Probers recovered four fired cartridge cases for cal. 9mm pistol and another for cal. 45 at the scene.

Police said the victim’s cadaver was brought to the Timario Funeral parlor in Bgy. Bakal III, Talavera, Nueva Ecija for autopsy.
