A FORMER town mayor was killed while his wife and granddaughter were wounded in an ambush by motorcycle-riding gunmen yesterday morning in Zamboanga City.
Captain Jefferson Somera, spokesman of the Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry Division identified the fatality as ex-Mayor Arsenio Climaco Fortich of Tungawan town in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Fortich’s  wife and his 9-year-old granddaughter were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.
The ambush occurred around 11:15 a.m. on the  intersection of San Bernardino Bridge and Tetuan Highway in Zamboanga City.
The victims were traveling in a Pajero when suspects on board two motorcycles sprayed them with bullets. The suspects fled after the incident.   Zaida delos Reyes-Palanca
