BARELY a couple of days after a Manila policeman was shot dead in Sta. Cruz, Manila, a retired policeman was wounded when one of four motorcycle-riding male suspects shot him after holding him up yesterday morning near his home also in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Now recovering at the UST Hospital is ret. Senior Insp. Cresencio Viray, 58, of 1836 Sulus St. in Sta. Cruz. Prober PO2 Julio Espiritu of the Manila Police District-Police Station 3 said the incident took place at 7:45 a.m. while the victim was heating up his car’s engine. The victim was reportedly seated in front of the car when the suspects arrived, snatched his bracelet and then shot him pointblank, hitting him in the left knee. The suspects then sped away toward an unknown direction on board two motorcycles. Police said the victim was able to get a good look at the suspects’ faces and will be able to identify them once he sees them again. Only last November 11, two unidentified men on board a motorcycle also shot SPO4 Antonio Castillo, 53, assigned at the the Anti-Illegal Drugs Section of the Manila Police District-Police Station 11, killing him instantly. Castillo was reportedly on duty and standing near the corner of Tambakan and Ongpin Streets in Sta. Cruz when two motorcycle-riding men arrived and shot him at close range without a warning. A female vendor was hit by a stray bullet but survived. Castillo was said to be up for retirement in a few months.
