INVESTIGATORS yesterday said the killing of a retired police sergeant and his son by four armed men in Isabela City, Basilan Monday could be drug-related.
One of the assailants, Sakib Saggap, was shot dead by local policemen in a follow-up operation, the Autonomous Region in Muslim Minda-nao Police Regional Office said.
The ARMM police said that retired Senior Police Officer 4 Hussin Jumahalid and his son Altrieki died on the spot after being attacked by the suspects inside their house at Zone II, Barangay Kaumpurnah in Isabela City.
An investigation showed that the suspects went to the house of the victims, knocked at the gate and opened fire on the Jumahalids as they opened the gate.
Saggap and his two brothers Mustafa and Samsa and Kaiser Hatama fled after the attack. However, pursuing policemen caught up with them and engaged them in a five-minute firefight, resulting in the killing of Sakib who yielded a caliber .45 pistol with four loaded magazines.
The three other suspects are still being hunted.
ARMM police director Chief Supt. Bienvenido Latag said they have received information that the attack was related to drugs although the report is still being verified by the Isabela City police.
