COTABATO CITY – (UPDATE 2) An ex-convict burst into a school in the southern Philippines and stabbed three people to death before being killed himself on Friday, a police official said.
The knife-wielding man killed the teacher and one of her students, along with the girl’s grandfather who was visiting at the time.
At least two other teachers and another student were also wounded, said Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo although Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., national police spokesman, told reporters in Manila there were six.
The ex-convict was identified as Feli Mateo who barged into the Talisayan Elementary School in Barangay (village) Talisayan, Zamboanga City at 1:45 p.m. and attacked the students and the teachers of the school, said Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., national police spokesman.
Cruz identified those killed by Mateo as Lorna Pulalon, Ces Orpiano, and Ruben Flores. Six more teachers and students were wounded – Joni Torres, Lodivina Balilo, Joshua Demco, Mara Basing, Princess Briones, and Jerelyn Into.
De Ocampo said the survivors were taken to Brent Hospital.
