THE POLICE arrested a 35-year-old man for beating his live-in partner in the head with a stick on Monday. Tadeo Marcelo, a driver and resident of Welfareville Compound in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City, was charged with violating Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women Act. Senior Police Officer 4 Eleanor Eleazar, chief of the Mandaluyong police women’s desk, said responding policemen and barangay watchmen caught Marcelo hitting the victim, who was completely naked, with a wooden stick inside their house. According to the victim, Marcelo came home and got angry when he saw his clothes strewn about. She added that he tore her clothes off, slapped her several times and then started hitting her with a stick on the head. Their neighbors alerted the police who rushed to the scene. “This was not the first time he did this to me. The last time, he splashed beer on my face in front of his friends,” the victim told the police who took Marcelo into their custody. Niña Calleja
