CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A man was arrested in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, for allegedly raping a mentally ill woman, who happened to be a granddaughter of comedy king Dolphy, the police said on Sunday.

The woman was home alone at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in Barangay (village) Bagumbayan, when allegedly, the suspect, Noel Villarin, 22, sneaked into her room and started raping her.

It was thereafter that the victim’s mother returned home from a wake and saw “the suspect and the victim half-naked on the bed” when she checked on her daughter.

“She immediately sought help from the police. The suspect did not attempt to escape,” Sta. Cruz police chief Marvin Saro said by phone.

Villarin, who lived nearby, worked as the family’s house help and was “close” to the family.

The police said he was drunk that evening.

Earlier, a cousin of Villarin was also arrested over a charge of attempted rape on the same victim.

The victim’s father is one of the sons of actor Dolphy (Rodolfo Quizon).

The family has gone through rough times lately. Early this year, the victim’s elder brother was arrested in Sta. Cruz for possession of illegal drugs.
