Police in Manila are now tracking down at least two men who gunned down a police informer in Manila’s Tondo district Monday afternoon.
The victim, initially identified as one Christopher dela Cruz, succumbed to seven gunshot wounds after being shot in Baseco Compound, radio dzBB reported early Tuesday.
After killing the victim, the suspects even wrote a message on a piece of cardboard and left it near the victim’s body.
“Huwag nyo tularan ang taong ito kasi ganito rin ang mangyayari sa inyo,” the message read.
Dela Cruz’s relatives were quoted in the report as saying the victim may have been targeted because he was a police informant in Ozamiz City in Mindanao.
The relatives said Dela Cruz was relocated to Manila some months back because he had received threats to his life.
Monday’s killing took place despite the Philippine National Police’s implementation of a gun ban for the May 13 elections.
Under the gun ban, all permits to carry firearms outside residence are suspended, and only law enforcers who are in uniform and on duty may carry firearms. — RSJ, GMA News
