A MENTALLY unstable mother was arrested by Alaminos, Laguna policemen  after she shot one of her sons yesterday.

Senior Insp. Robert Marinda, identified the suspect as Dina Balitaan Santos, of Barangay Sta. Rosa.

Marinda, in a report to Laguna police director Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz, said Bryan, 19, a first year college student in San Pablo City, was talking to a friend through a cellular phone when his mother  entered his room and without a word shot him   point blank using a  .38 caliber revolver.

“Ayaw na raw niya (suspect) na makitang naghihirap ang kanyang anak,” Marinda  said.

Dina used to work in Italy but returned due to homesickness. 

“She may  have been   forced to return  because of the state of her mental health,” Marinda said. He added  that they are still gathering more information on the case. 

Bryan is still in critical condition at a  hospital in San Pablo City with the bullet still embedded in his left temple, Marinda said. He said  Dina was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development  and will undergo a medical examination today.

“The result would determine whether the suspect could be formally charged for the crime of frustrated parricide or not, although it is likely that her own family would not pursue the case,” Marinda said.
