AN alleged mentally-ill patient was held under police custody for allegedly hacking to death his 19-year-old cousin who came to visit him in his home in Quezon City Thursday afternoon.

The suspect, Adonis Matutina, 32, is said to be an out-patient of the National Center for Mental Health.

PO2 Marlon dela Vega said Matutina hacked to death his cousin Allan Bautista, of Bgy. San Antonio, Quezon City.

Bautista died at around 4 p.m. Thursday at Matutina’s house on Yen St., Phase 8, NorthFairview.

The victim, who sustained a fatal hack wound in the neck, was declared dead on arrival at the Fairview General Hospital at 5 p.m. 

Dela Vega said that Barangay Public Safety officers (BPSOs) immediately responded to the area and arrested the suspect who was still holding the bolo that he used against the victim.

The suspect’s mother, Emma, told police that Matutina is mentally-ill and had been confined at a mental institute. 

The suspect still regularly goes to the mental institute for checkup every month and takes maintenance medicine every day.

Dela Vega learned that on Thursday, the victim was at Matutina family’s house to help fix the kitchen sink.

The victim was returning to the Matutinas’ house when he saw the suspect sitting at the front door.

Bautista got surprised when the suspect suddenly hacked him with a bolo. Although wounded, he managed to run away towards his sister’s house nearby.              Melnie Ragasa-Jimena
