MANILA, Philippines – An employee of the Department of Education allegedly involved in illegal drugs trade was shot dead Thursday inside a school in Agusan del Norte, police said on Friday.
Police Superintendent Martin Gamba, Caraga police spokesman, said Rico Amora Tiu, 40, died on the spot after he was gunned down by a still unidentified suspect at the San Francisco Pilot Elementary School in San Francisco around 4:30 p.m.
Gamba said the victim had just arrived at the school when the suspect approached Tiu and opened fire, hitting him thrice in different parts of his body.
The suspect fled towards unknown direction, Gamba said.
“Further investigation revealed that victim is under the watchlist of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for his alleged involvement in illegal drug activities,” Gamba said, but noted that investigators have yet to determine the real motive behind the attack.
