Criminals struck anew this week, this time in Cavite province where five armed men took P1 million from two traders in Carmona town.
The men struck near the town market when the victims’ vehicle was forced to slow down due to a hump on the road, radio dzBB’s Tuesday Niu reported.
Provincial police spokesman Senior Superintendent Romeo Desiderio was quoted in the report as identifying the victims as traders Vicente Orobia and Marivic Ocampo.
An initial investigation showed the two were aboard a red Corolla-type sedan (TTW-312) near the Carmona market when they had to slow down because of a hump in the road.
Once they did, the men allegedly approached the vehicle and declared a heist, taking some P1 million.
They then fled toward an unknown location, the report said.
Monday’s incident was the latest in a series of high-profile crimes that included a jewelry store heist at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City last Jan. 26.
Following the Megamall heist were shooting incidents in broad daylight such as that of a businessman in San Juan City and a money transfer service outlet robbery in Parañaque City.
The incidents prompted Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima to order daytime checkpoints t deter criminals. —KG, GMA News
