KIDAPAWAN CITY — A hardware store owner and her live-in partner were killed while two of her workers were seriously wounded when gunmen sprayed bullets on her house in a subdivision in the city in Cotabato province, a police official said Thursday.

City police director Supt. Chino Mamburam identified the slain victims as Gina Bayhon, wife of a former military officer and owner of Donamae Hardware; and her live-in partner, Kenneth Gelloriza.  

Wounded in the attack that occurred  at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday were Faith Peñaflorida and Ivy Peñalosa, workers of the hardware.

Mamburam said the victims had just arrived in the house when the two suspects, on a motorcycle, came and fired several shots from an M16 armalite rifle.

The victims were rushed to the nearest hospital but Bayhon and Gelloriza died before receiving treatment.

Peñaflorida and Peñalosa sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies, Maburam said, adding that personal grudge is being eyed as one of the motives for the attack, including business-related animosity.

A police report said Bayhon has a pending case in court.

Mamburam also hinted the suspects could be hired killers.

However, he said he was surprised the gunmen were able to carry out the killing using a long firearm despite the strict implementation of gun ban in the city.   — Malu Cadelina Manar /LBG, GMA News
