MANILA, Philippines—The authorities are investigating the killing of two men and wounding of one more in an attack carried out by a group of armed men in Pasig City on Monday afternoon.
The police identified the fatalities as Pagar Pulog, 28, a Muslim trader; and Tomasito Cerna, 28; both residents of Barangay Bambang.
Their companion, Quirino Corcino, 39; was wounded and remains in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
Senior Superintendent Jesse Cardona, Pasig police chief, said the three were playing cards in an area at the Asuncion Compound a little after noon when three men armed with guns appeared and fired upon them.
Pulog and Cerna, who sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies, were brought to Rizal Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Empty shells and slugs from a .45-caliber and 9 mm firearms were found at the crime scene, police said.
Cardona said a note which read “Pusher, huwag tularan (Drug pusher, don’t follow his example)” was discovered in the area which led them to suspect that the shooting may be related to the illegal drug trade.
“Perhaps, there was a squabble over drug money,” Cardona added.
But he said the information was not yet conclusive as the investigation into the case was still ongoing.
