THE POLICE ARE EYEING AN 8-YEAR-OLD court case as the motive for the killing of a former dean of the Martinez Memorial Colleges in Caloocan City last week.
A police report said Dr. Yasmin Navarro was shot dead at around 8 a.m. on April 6 near her house in Kaunlaran Village, Caloocan City, as she and her husband, Dominador, were waiting for a tricycle that would take her to the Caloocan Metropolitan Trial Court.
On that day, Navarro was supposed to sign in court a settlement agreement with another businesswoman over a property dispute case which the victim filed against the latter in 2002, Navarro’s relatives said.
Under the agreement, the businesswoman was to pay the victim P2.5 million for a commercial building on Mabini Street.
Chief Insp. Marcelo Mariano, Station Investigation and Detection Management Bureau chief of the Caloocan police, said they had already invited the businesswoman for questioning but she refused.
He added that they were also looking for witnesses who could shed light on the victim’s killing.
