Cop shoots drunk man

A POLICEMAN shot and wounded a man, who went berserk in barangay Punong, Samboan town, southern Cebu on Friday night. 

Investigation showed that PO2 Catalino Ricablanca shot Manuel Balbuena Jr. after the man stabbed him in the right arm.

PO2 Ricablanca and some barangay tanods responded to a trouble alarm when they saw Balbuena brandishing a knife while challenging neighbors to a fight.

The policeman, who was armed with an M-16 rifle, tried to pacify the unruly resident. PO2 Ricablanca fired a warning shot.

After the gunshot, Balbuena attacked the policeman with a knife. 

He was shot in the leg. 

Both injured men were treated at the Malabuyoc District Hospital.

Senior Supt. Erson Digal, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said medical assistance will be given to the wounded policeman.

Charges will be filed tomorrow against Balbuena, said police./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
