A MEMBER of the Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO) was gunned down by an operative of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-7) in barangay Cantuod Balamban town last Saturday afternoon.

The 32-year-old victim, Agapito Cuizon, a resident of barangay Cantuod, sustained several gunshot wounds inflicted allegedly by PO3 Artemio Tumakay Jr., a CIDG operative and resident of barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.

Tumakay surrendered to Balamban police. Hewas detained at the Balamban police precinct.

SPO3 Arvie Banate of the Balamban police said the incident began when Cuizon and Tumakay arrived in barangay Cantuod to buy fish in the public market.

Cuizon was with his wife Epefania and their one-year-old child while Tumakay rode with his friend identified as Dennis Paradero, a resident of barangay Singsing, Balamban town.

Banate said Cuizon advised his wife to get off the motorcycle while he talked with Tumakay.

It was learned that Cuizon and Paradero held grudges against each other.

A shootout ensued following an argument among the three men and Cuizon dropped dead near a tree with his .45 pistol and some bullets found near his body.

Epifania and some nearby relatives hid for fear until the Balamban police arrived on the scene.

Tumakay showed his ID card and his 9mm pistol, saying he fired his weapon five times.

Tumakay underwent a paraffin test at the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) crime laboratory together with Paradero.

Charges will be filed against the suspects sometime this week, Banate said.
