A policeman responding to a rape incident in San Andres Bukid, Manila, was hammered in the head by the suspect who, in turn, was shot in the head by the said cop. Both of them lived.

The protagonists, SPO2 Gil Gabuya of the Manila Police District-Station 6, and the suspect, Danilo Panganiban, 45, a parking attendant, of 1760 Estrada St., San Andres, Bukid, both landed in a hospital to get treatment for the wounds they sustained.

Panganiban though, is said to be in critical condition.

The incident reportedly took place at around 7:30 a.m. of Dec. 1, when SPO2 Gabuya accompanied Chairman Orlando Macuha of Bgy. 772, Zone 84, in responding to a complaint of attempted rape lodged by a certain ‘Honey’, 30.

The complainant claimed that the suspect suddenly barged into her home, embraced and touched her private parts and then tried to undress her.  However, she put up a fight and shouted for help, awaking her husband and neighbors and sending the suspect running away.

The victim went straight to the barangay hall and filed a formal complaint.

The suspect was summoned but refused to appear, prompting Macuha to seek assistance from Gabuya so they can have the suspect apprehended.

The suspect reportedly ignored appeals for him to come out, so SPO2 Gabuya decided to enter his home, only to be hit with a hammer in the head.

When Gabuya fell to the floor, the suspect allegedly raised the hammer to hit him again, prompting him to draw his gun and fire at the suspect, who was hit in the cheek.
