ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A policeman killed a Marine soldier during a videoke bar shootout in Zamboanga City, before dawn Thursday.
Police identified the soldier as Private First Class Rex Pamittan, a member of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-4 based in Tawi-Tawi.
Pamittan’s shooter, Senior Police Officer 2 Orlando Gellicania, was in a critical condition and was undergoing operation in a private hospital in the city as of this posting.
Investigators said Gellicania, whose mobile unit was stationed near the videoke house, was asked to pacify Pamittan, who was engaged in a heated argument with another customer. The incident happened around 12:30 a.m..
Gellicania was able to fix the trouble between the Marine soldier and the unidentified customer.
Pamittan, however, allegedly requested if he could sing one more song, but Gellicania refused.
Irked, the Marine soldier pulled out his .45 pistol and fired at the policeman. The policeman, who was already down on the floor due to his wounds, was able to fire back and killed the soldier.
